On January 7, 1991 while working as a co-pilot in a UH-1V Huey medivac helicopter in the 507 medical company, 1st platoon, during Operation Desert Storm, his aircraft was shot down by hostile forces over Iraq. At the time he was part of a rescue mission being conducted in the area. He along with two crewmen was killed in the crash.
