Thomas was a crew chief on a helicopter that was downed June 18, 1968 in Lam Dong Province, Vietnam. He was a member of the 192nd Assault Helicopter Company and served as part of a Task Force that assisted the 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne. He was 19 years old at the time of his death. Thomas is buried in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, MA.
