Captain Beardall was the pilot of a B-26B Invader bomber with the 8th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group. On May 21, 1951, while on a day interdiction of the enemy, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed 30 miles northwest of the bombline along Route 4, Kumchon to Sibyon. He was taken Prisoner of War. He was presumed dead on March 31, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. For his leadership and valor, Captain Beardall was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
