Private First Class Young was a member of Company H, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was wounded during the fighting at the combat outpost “Frisco” in North Korea on October 7, 1952 and was killed during a counter attack at the “Hook” on October 27, 1952. For his leadership and valor, Private First Class Young was awarded the Silver Star with Gold Star, the Purple Heart with Gold Star, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Naval Unit Citation, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
