Captured by the Japanese on December 23, 1941, while working with the U.S. Public Health Service, 615th Bomber Squadron, 401st Bomber Group, Heavy building an airfield, seaplane base and submarine base on Wake Island. On October 7, 1943, he became a part of the “Wake Island Massacre” when he, along with 97 other civilian employee prisoners were blindfolded and gunned down by their captures.
