2Lt Eston J. Barr was a co-pilot of a Douglas RB-18A of the 11th Air Force based out of Shamya, Alaska. On Feb. 16, 1944 the plane left to go 50 miles on a routine flight to Amchitka island, in the Rat Islands group of the Aleutian Islands. The last contact with the plane was from Amchitka radio at 11:45. A search was made and the wreckage was found on May 18 at the foot of Kiska volcano. Originally buried in a Kiska cemetery, he was reinterred at Arlington National Cemetery on Sept. 30, 1948.
Survived by wife Marian R. (Harrell) Barr, daughter Anita; his parents Eston M. and Lille (Paul) Barr of Orlando and later Merritt Island, and sister Frances.
